Happy Holidays
AREN picked up the K photo on her dressing table. “If only we could have a beach holiday like we used to have,” she said, staring at the picture.
It showed her sitting on a fishing boat with her mom and dad. They were all wearing old clothes and happy smiles. Karen’s long blonde hair was in plaits, and she was holding a fish she’d just caught. The photo was taken several years earlier.
“I’m sure you and I will find something just as interesting in these brochures,” her mother said, sitting beside her on the bed.
She spoke cheerfully but Karen thought she saw a wistful expression in her eyes as she looked at the photo. Her parents had been so happy then. If only they hadn’t become so busy, perhaps they’d still be together.
She dutifully looked at the brochures her mom had
