Aufstieg und Fall der Stadt Mahagonny

Written at the tail end of the dysfunctional Weimar Republic, the administration that preceded Germany’s Third Reich, Kurt Weill and Bertolt Brecht’s Aufstieg und Fall der Stadt Mahagonny tells the story of a decadent pleasure town founded to profit from mankind’s excesses. A new production by the company’s Artistic Director, Barrie Kosky, premiered this fall at Komische Oper Berlin (seen Oct. 9).
