What’s the story behind the name ‘Toad & Sew’?
The name Toad & Sew was inspired by the apparel company Toad & Co. I saw their name once and loved it so much because I have a rescue dog named Toad. This was before I had a business – even before I started quilting for that matter. Once I realised I wanted to start writing patterns, I immediately knew what I wanted to name my brand.
You’ve stated before that your grandmother taught you how to sew when you were young. What’s your earliest sewing memory?
I used to spend a couple of weeks every summer with my Grandma as a child and some of my first memories of sewing were sitting on her lap as she helped me push fabric through the machine. We used to drive around to different thrift stores and pick out donated fabric and then come home and make all sorts of projects. Even though she isn’t a quilter, I definitely got my sewing obsession and fabric hoarding tendencies from her. Her sewing space was covered in stacks and stacks of fabric – and now that I'm a quilter I finally understand why!
