It can be tempting to hit all the sales come January, but often we find ourselves buying things we don’t really need (or want) simply because they’re discounted. This year, put some time between you and your purchases. If you still want something at the end of the month, buy it then.

MAKE A BUDGET

Take a moment to consider your financial goals and the motivations behind them. It will be easier to stick to a spending plan when you have clear goals and attainable steps for how you will achieve them. For example, rather than your goal being “spend less”, it could be “put an extra 10 per cent into savings each month for a vacation”.
