The depths of winter are not particularly conducive to foraging. Such circumstances would seldom have resulted in starvation for hunter-gatherers past and present, as hunting is always possible and gathered foods would have been preserved for the barren months. But still, the landscape is never entirely bare, so I will highlight a couple of species that are common all year and are even at their best in winter.
