BACK WITH A SOLID BANG

A growing sense of renewal seems to be sweeping the design world after two turbulent years without annual rituals such as Salone del Mobile Milano and Maison&Objet in Paris. The return of significant fairs in the decorating field in September was a signal of the need for new products and the emergence of novel trends.

Maison&Objet was back in person last year, with exhibitors and buyers eager to meet and touch the collections. There were 48,641 attendees and 1,476 brands, down from 81,232 attendees and 2,891 brands in January 2020 – the last physical trade show.

Still hampered by travel restrictions, participants were mainly French, with 28 per cent from abroad, primarily Belgium, the Netherlands, Italy, Germany and Spain, and less than half the usual number of international exhibitors joined.

Everyone present was eager to get the business
