Notepad

What is it?

Microsoft’s long-standing text editor. It first appeared in MS-DOS in 1983, was part of Windows 1 when it launched two years later, and has been in every version of the operating system since. The screenshot below shows what it looked like then (you can try it yourself by running Windows). It’s designed for writing and editing plain text.
