Athletes and admirers are paying tribute to Lusia Harris, the women's basketball legend who died Tuesday at age 66.
Harris may not be a household name, but her credentials speak for themselves: She led her college team to three championships in the 1970s, scored the first points in the history of Olympics women's basketball and was the only woman to be officially drafted by the NBA.
"We are deeply saddened to share the news that our angel, matriarch, sister, mother, grandmother, Olympic medalist, The Queen shared by Delta State University, her alma mater. "The recent months brought Ms. Harris great joy, including the news of the upcoming wedding of her youngest son and the outpouring of recognition received by a recent documentary that brought worldwide attention to her story."
