Super ‘Siphon G’

PROTOTYPES are usually chosen as commercial models if they meet certain criteria and that usually includes a long working life, wide geographical appeal and numerous liveries (with the odd notable exception such as the TPE Mk.5a stock).

The GWR ‘Siphon G’ van is one of those vehicles that easily meets the grade in this respect, but as anyone who has followed the history of the GWR 'Siphon G' milk vans will know, a long operating history, especially one that extends into the mid-1980s, usually means numerous adaptations and conversions which can change the outward appearance of a rail vehicle.
