TROY LEE DESIGNS SHUTTLE JACKET

£100 www.saddleback.co.uk

The Shuttle jacket offers a decent level of wind protection, and its reasonably lightweight construction means it packs down small enough to be stowed in your pack when not in use. While it isn’t waterproof, we’ve worn it in all sorts of conditions, from constant rain through to colder days when we were simply looking for some added insulation, and it’s helped keep us reasonably dry and warm. It doesn’t get as clammy as a full-on waterproof when you’re working hard,so we’ve found ourselves leaving it on for longer. Gill vents (a covered slit with a mesh backing) across the back and under the armpits help to dump heat if you do start cooking. A dropped tail keeps your lower back covered, while the soft lining at the rear of the collar feels comfy and warm when it’s bitter outside. There’s also a pocket at the rear for essentials, although we think it’d work better on the front. We like the Shuttle jacket. It’s decently breathable and has proven itself in multiple conditions.
