There’s still plenty of gardening to be done in compact spaces, whether it be on the patio, in a small courtyard or on a balcony.
Trellis stars
Creepers and climbers will go to town on any wall, pillar, or arch where trellis support is possible. Consider these indigenous showstoppers that are low maintenance, love growing in a sunny spot and are naturally adapted to our climate.
• Pink trumpet vine (Podranea ricasoliana) boasts an abundance of fragrant lilac-pink flowers from November to March.
• Flame creeper (Combretum microphyllum) is truly spectacular with flaming crimson blooms from August to November.
• Cape honeysuckle () bears tubular blooms in red, orange, yellow, and salmon at various times of the year.
