Boost your skills: handicap racing

Sailing is not a sport for everyone, but it is definitely a sport for anyone. Regardless of your height, weight, fitness, age and experience there is a boat out there for you, or perhaps several! We are so lucky in sailing that we are indeed spoilt for choice and thanks to the handicap system we can all enjoy racing together.

Now we do of course need to add a few notes here… Obviously, some classes have (at least perceived) advantages in some conditions. After all no handicap system could be perfect. Some, in a broad sense, very 'powered-up' boats will have an advantage in light winds, and 'under-powered' boats an advantage in strong winds. Boats that plane upwind have an advantage in conditions where there is enough wind for them to plane upwind and disadvantage when not quite enough.
