Wave goodbye to the dreaded washing-up with a gleaming new dishwasher. Not only will a dishwasher let you cast off your scrubbing brushes, sponges and Marigolds once and for all, but it can also reduce your environmental impact. Today’s dishwashers use less water to clean a full load of dishes than you would washing them by hand, so it might be worth updating your dishwasher if you’ve already got one that’s years old.

Dishwashers vary in price greatly, so it’s important to consider exactly what you need from one before, has this advice: ‘[First,] decide on the fit: would a free-standing, semi-integrated or fully integrated dishwasher look best in your kitchen? You also need a size that fits the space available: a standard dishwasher is 60cm wide, but there are slimline dishwashers for smaller kitchens that’ll fit a 45cm-wide gap.’ There are also table-top options, which sit on a counter and can be stored in a cupboard after use.
