Oral history is about the study and collection of people’s memories, experiences and opinions. It tends to take the form of audio or video recordings as well as transcriptions of interviews. Its aim is to capture individual life experiences and gather information from multiple viewpoints. Oral history is particularly powerful when giving a platform to people whose voices and stories haven’t been included in mainstream study. These may reveal new perspectives that challenge our traditional way of interpreting the past.
