Exploring Indiana National Banks

Some years back, I had the opportunity to drive through Indiana and visit several interesting small towns that I had not combined into an article. So, for this month, let’s go to central and southern Indiana for a look-see.

It was a beautiful sunny day, and as I sped along U.S. Highway 52, I almost missed the large billboard up ahead that beckoned me to “Visit Metamora: A Genuine 1840’s Canal Town.” I pulled over, made a U-turn, and found Metamora, truly a step back in time off the side of the road.

Metamora, Indiana, was platted in 1838 as an important site on the famous Whitewater Canal
