The prose writings allow us a deeper insight into the events in the diary
Over 250,000 women served in the Auxiliary Territorial Service (ATS) during the Second World War, providing essential support to the British Army. One of these women was Henrietta ‘Hetty’ Munro (1912–1989), who went on to work as a writer, antiques dealer and more. The Highland Archive Service now holds Hetty’s papers. As trainee archivist Jamie McCaffrey explains, they include a short story she wrote, which offers a poignant glimpse of a wartime love affair.
