Be amazed by Orkney

As two motorhomes brushed by me in our narrow main street I felt the usual stab of envy and then found myself muttering, “Oh well. North, south, east, west, home’s best.” It’s hardly the motto for a dedicated motorhomer, but that moment was where the idea came from. I stopped dead in my tracks. Why had we never thought of it before? Where exactly were the northernmost, southernmost, easternmost and westernmost points of Great Britain and could we visit them in our motorhome?

Husband, Eric, soon came onside, Google obliged us with the requisite details and we made our first target the north of Shetland. We could have gone there directly (there’s a daily ferry from Aberdeen), but that would have been to bypass Orkney. Why do that when we’d never been to those islands? Far better to take our time getting to Shetland and have a stop in Orkney on the way…
