KICK OFF: It must have been great to have a dad who played at such a high level when you were growing up? Did that influence you into wanting to be a professional footballer?
Khanyisa Mayo: My dad used to take us to training sessions at every team he played for, even SuperSport United and Kaizer Chiefs. It gave my brother [Khanyisile] and I a chance to see what it was like and really understand how footballers train, even at an early age. We would mostly also play with the ball ourselves and it gave us some inspiration. We used to play a lot in the complex with our friends where we stayed, so we were around the game all the time.
Was it always football for you?
In my primary school days I actually did athletics because I was fast, and then I also started playing cricket. I was good at both cricket and football, and I guess there was a time I had to make a choice. I chose soccer because that was a career that was in the family
