Part two Street MACHINE DEFINING Features

ONCE we dusted off the archives and started compiling our list of the best feature yarns to have appeared in Street Machine for last month’s special 400th issue, we quickly realised that we wouldn’t have the room to run all the great stuff we found. So this issue we continue the journey, beginning in 2002 and going right through until now. We hope you enjoy this trawl through some of the mag’s greatest moments.

MAD TO THE MAX

NOVEMBER 2002

MY FIRST big job for Street Machine was to pilot a brand-new Tickford TS50 from Sydney to Broken Hill with photographer Simon Davidson to cover the 20th-anniversary celebrations of Mad Max 2. Dubbed Back To The Max, the show was run by Max fan Scott Smith and some buddies, and boy, did they do a cracking job. Interceptor replicas and ratty hardtops turned up from all corners of the country to roam around the sacred region where the film was created. Visitors included Emil Minty (aka the Feral Kid), the Myers clan in GM176, then-local lad Howard Astill, and even Mel Gibson’s Mad Max 2 stunt double, Dennis Williams.
