LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

Fat tank

l recently sent a photo of a BMW R5 that lives locally to a friend in England, simply because he has one, and l knew he would appreciate the pic. He was very interested in the photo, but especially in the tank. He claimed the tank appeared to have been considerately widened and reshaped around the head stem compared to a standard tank, and sent me back a number of photos to back up his statements. He told me he had heard (even in England) about a person or persons that were in some way associated with Geelong BMW dealer, Frank Pratt, and manufactured oversize tanks for BMWs, l guess for the purpose of travelling longer distances in Australia.

l had not heard this before, and would have dismissed the whole thing if l hadn’t already seen the wider tank myself. The one l have seen was very well done, and obviously professionally manufactured. l would love to hear about this person or his tank building business, and if any readers could help with any information or details about this taking place it would be much appreciated.
