We’ve all had to learn about a lot of new concepts ever since the COVID-19 pandemic entered our lives. I would have never thought that I would need to have a basic understanding of mRNA vaccines, viral loads, infection curves, and oxygen saturation levels. Yet here we are two years later, and all of those have become common terms that we sprinkle into everyday conversation.
However, there’s one COVID-related phrase that I would be content to never have to hear again: “In these uncertain times…” You’ve likely also met its cousin, “In these unprecedented times…” Usually, those two phrases are used to introduce bad news, as in: “In these uncertain times, your bank has made the difficult decision to lower the interest rate on your savings account to negative 7.5%” or “In these unprecedented times, we know that you’ll appreciate that we have reduced our supermarket’s daily opening hours to 10:00 a.m. through 4:00 p.m., for your health and safety.”
So why am I talking about” I don’t mean that in a condescending way, either - it’s genuinely nice.
