GO ON MIZON

Philip Sharkey watches some emerging talent impress

TOWER BRIDGE

MARCH 4

DENNIS HOBSON’S Fight Academy cameras paid a visit to London to showcase some up and coming talent, both male and female.

Nathan Mizon (Tadworth) claimed win number four as he landed a variety of shots on Jakub Laskowski. But the plucky Pole took his licks, particularly during a torrid last half of the bout. Chas Coakley scored 60-54 from ringside, with trialist Sean McAvoy in charge inside the ropes.

Also moving to 4-0 is Bromley teenager Harry Mullins. Chorlton-cum-Hardy’s Stephen Jackson had no fear of tangling with a southpaw.

With Mr McAvoy again the third man, Kieran McCann’s ringside 40-36 score failed to reward the efforts of the visitor.

A third 4-0 record was secured by French flyweight champion Johanna Wonyou. A left hook rattled Tanzanian Sarafina Bela and a follow up barrage saw Chas Coakley make a perfectly timed intervention after just 55 seconds.

Mr Coakley also called a halt to an extraordinary 80 seconds of boxing when Leytonstone debutant Dee Allen stopped the vastly more experienced Milena Koleva. First blood went to the Berlin-based Bulgarian when a left hook dumped Dee for an eight-count before she steamed back with a right hand that ended proceedings.

Surrey’s Alfie Winter earned his second 40-36 win against Rustem Fatkhullin who, although announced from Southampton, was booed by Winter’s fans who recognised him as Russian. He received a long admonishment from Mr McCann for a head butt that left Winter needing four stitches.

Louise Orton picked off Tanzanian Flora Machela with her long jab, Mr McCann awarded the African the fifth as the Rochester newbie took her foot off the pedal, but she ended her six-twos impressively. McCann scored it 59-55.
