MEMORY RECREATED

About a year after opening a contemporary art gallery in East Los Angeles, Alice Lodge woke up one morning and realised she had recreated her Sydney childhood.

Sitting in her gallery amid a jumble of artworks and packing boxes - the space is in flux as Lodge is moving house and preparing her next exhibition - Alice says some of her most vivid early memories are of trailing her parents at opening night parties in Australia.

“I remember being this young girl, really little, and wandering around art openings dodging cigarettes and glasses of wine,” she says.

“I loved it - there was a real frivolity, a joy, with glamorous artists and great conversations that I was always on the periphery of.”
