Whitewater kayaking is not the most diverse sport. The barriers to entry are high for many. It expensive and equipment heavy; the sport predominantly takes place outside of cities; instruction is primarily handed down from peer to peer, generation to generation; self-instruction can be unsafe and challenging; it has an incredibly steep learning curve.
