He never left the office. He never took to the streets to protest. He never got raided or arrested. But nonetheless he was an important part of the struggle — always there, working tirelessly behind the scenes, putting in extra hours on evenings and weekends, getting the message out that the world needed to change.
On a Friday afternoon some weeks ago, they gathered in the office to bid him farewell. Soon, they knew, he would be gone. And as they toasted him with beers and Old Mout Cider, they talked about the contributions he’d made to hundreds of books, pamphlets and zines — from Imminent Rebellion to Compassionate Contrarians: A History of Vegetarians in Aotearoa/New Zealand.
