Secord Coming

JUST IN TIME FOR HIS 40th anniversary, Dave Stevens’s high-flyer is returning in a new miniseries by Irish writer/artist Stephen Mooney. Set on the eve of the Second World War, The Great Race finds Cliff Secord facing his toughest challenge yet: a dangerous air race from California to Paris.

“I wanted to lean into Cliff’s on similar competitions from the late 1930s. “It certainly shares many elements with real-life air races of the time, but there’s also a fair few fantastical, almost sci-fi elements at play, in that those sorts of planes couldn’t really journey so far, and at such speeds, on single tanks of fuel. The planes in my story have been modified for longer flights, as you’ve got to pump up that thrill factor!”
