ABS master smith and BLADE® field editor Joe Szilaski said he values every single hand tool, power tool and piece of equipment in his shop. “As my wife [Lori] would quickly tell you, I’m addicted to tools and machines,” he smiled, “especially old machines.” Consequently, visiting Joe’s shop is a bit like a museum tour.

“Being a bladesmith, of course, my bladesmithing tools are most important,” he reasoned. “My anvils, forges, various hammers and tongs are what I use most. My 50-pound Little Giant power hammer is a great time saver. I believe it is from 1902, and yes, it still performs as good as the day it was made. I have reworked it a bit.
