ELLE AND ANDY

Why did you decide to get hitched? Elle: I’ve always been the marrying kind deep down, but I had never felt like I wanted to marry anyone before dating Andy. We’ve been together 10 years prior to the wedding. Andy: I feel it’s the most committed way to show your love to each other.
Describe the style of your wedding. Andy: Backyard party. Elle: A casual vow exchange/Hills Hoist hitchin’ party. It was supposed to be an elopement, but COVID stopped us going to the middle of rural Victoria like we had planned. At the last minute, we had it at the house and had a select few people who know us well to witness us say some smoochy words and make some pinky promises to one another.
Which wedding traditions did you ditch? Elle: We totally ditched the religious part, the first dance, the cake, the invitations with RSVPs, throwing a bouquet, the speeches, the bridal party – everything! Andy: To us, the ‘traditional wedding’ is two people declaring their love for each other.
Our friends loved the idea, and the day. But some didn’t quite understand why we didn’t want a big wedding. Elle’s father was generously trying to pay for us to have a bigger wedding and my mother also kept comparing our wedding to my sister’s wedding, which was ridiculously extravagant (they had a falconry display!). In the end, both our friends and family said the whole event suited
