Gum Blossom Baby

MATERIALS

15g flesh colour polymer clay

15g green polymer clay

15g gold polymer clay

1g rose mica powder

10cm Feathers yarn

2cm 20 gauge wire

TOOLS

Pasta machine

Tissue blade

Tile

Needle tool or toothpick

Paint brush

Straw

Round nose pliers

Chain nose pliers

LENGTH: 6cm

STEP ONE

Three clay colours are needed for this project – flesh coloured for the baby; green and gold mixed together to make the gum leaves. The blossom in the cap uses feathery knitting yarn incorporated into the clay; the yarn can be baked in the clay.

STEP TWO

Begin by conditioning each colour of clay, separately, starting with the lightest colour first. The clay must become soft and pliable to easily sculpt into shape. Roll the clay into a ball in your palms and squash and roll again until it begins to soften. If you are using a pasta machine, roll the clay through the machine 15 to 20 times, on
