WHEN I WAS young, I played lots of sport: tennis, netball, athletics, swimming, table tennis, hockey – you name it I was in virtually all the school’s teams. I also did modern dance and Jane Fonda workouts.
But boarding school didn’t suit me. As the baby of the family, I missed my parents, who had spoiled me up until they moved overseas. My parents told me not to write home unless I had something happy to share, and to have a “stiff upper lip”. I turned to food as a comfort, starting with bread and chocolate spread.
