A special Kalahari hunt

Our hosts have refined their traditional Kalahari hunt format over several years. The custom of sleeping under canvas in the shade of a spreading camel-thorn tree and walking and stalking in the red dunes has become well established. Traditional and historic kit has been researched, sought in far-flung corners and assembled with care for this hunt. Yet each meeting introduces something new, something to feed the passion and nurture new hunting ambitions for the next 12 months.

This particular year, all hunting was to be conducted with single-shot, falling-block rifles, and an impressive battery was assembled for the hunt.

In keeping with the disjointed nature of the year, arrival, departure and travel times changed as we came closer to the day we would meet up, adding an air of chance and uncertainty to the year’s hunt. Some were staying on, others fitted the hunt between business appointments, and others hunted as part of longer road trips. Each brought their own stories and adventures of the journey to the campfire.
