MOUNTAIN MEMORIES

he article ‘The shining mountain’ in your November/December 2021 issue brought back very many happy memories of my own climb – a very different experience from that of your lovely group of ladies, and well done to them! My own adventure started in early 1967. Three other moms and I decided we would go on this adventure. We were advised that two local men, who had climbed the mountain a few times before, would probably be willing to act as guides. We knitted woollen socks, gloves, hats and scarves, and had new leather boots made by the local fundi, all a size larger than usual to accommodate two pairs of socks.
