MY life changed the night after an hours-long blackout. And I don’t mean an Eskom one.
Two old friends who lived in Tanzania were visiting. It was midwinter, so that afternoon began as usual: sitting in front of a roaring fire, a bottle or two of good red, and lots of catching up. I don’t know how it ended because I woke up the next morning with my memory wiped and a terrible hangover. Over breakfast, I tried to discern from my friends’ attitudes towards me if I’d overstepped the mark – something I was having to do more and more often the morning after – but reading between the lines revealed that things had been a little wild but good clean fun.
