A few years back, I went with a friend to see a play at the Malthouse Theatre in Melbourne’s Southbank. Another friend was in the cast and so after the (excellent) show we had a drink at the lobby bar, waiting for her to emerge from backstage. When she appeared, she announced she was famished and wanted – no, needed – food and Champagne.
This is the exact situation where it’s handy to know that France-Soir, the neon-signed French bistro in South Yarra that’s been packing them in for 36 years, is open until midnight every night of the week.
