ADVICE FROM EXPERTS DEBBIE BLISS & ERIKA KNIGHT!

1 JUST RELAX

Try not to pull your stitches too much when you’re working a cable, as this can affect the tension. Once you’ve placed the stitches on the cable needle, keep them close to your knitting, and try your best to knit them with the same tension as the rest of the row so that they lie flat. If you’re new to cables it’s normal to tighten your tension when you get to one in the pattern – it’s as though your nervousness goes straight to your needles!

2 CHOOSING YOUR YARN

When knitting for delicate baby skin, it’s important to choose the softest natural fibre you can find. Erika Knight suggests using British Blue wool, made from 100% Blue Faced Leicester fleece – it’s a luxurious fibre, and widely available in shops around the UK, which means you’re supporting British sheep farmers. Erika explains: “Wool wicks moisture away, allowing precious skin to breathe, keeping baby cosy and comfortable whatever the weather.”
