As I have mentioned before, driving a 10,000 horsepower NHRA-spec top fuel funny car is to me the ultimate in this sport. These cars have the motor in front, a short wheelbase, you get covered in clutch dust, they’re hard to drive, and a challenge to tune, but man are they fun. Our first public outing with the new car was set for Willowbank Raceway and a match race with the Nitro Freak team owned by Rod Bailey, who happened to bring his nitro funny car to NZ some 10 years ago.
We went up to Queensland with the intention of doing a half-track test pass on Friday night — as we wanted to try a few things — and then a three-round match race
