‘Drawings are gentler than photos’

VEN THOUGH HIS MOTHER is an artist and teacher, George Butler wasn’t actively encouraged to draw as a child. The thinking, perhaps, was that if you encourage little boys to do something too much they tend to do the opposite. Today, his mum likes to think he learnt by osmosis. But the artistic gene was truly in him. At school, he liked to draw animals and started a comic called for his other classmates.
