Splashing around in the water, my parents cheered with glee.
‘You did it, Hannah!’ my mum, Ginny, now 72, squealed with excitement.
I was only three years old, and just learnt to swim.
This is early for some kids, but growing up in Brunei, Asia, I was always around the water.
My dad was stationed there with the Navy, so we moved with him.
From then on, you couldn’t get me out of the ocean, I essentially lived in the sea.
As a child, the other girls in my class thought they were going to grow up to be princesses, but I longed to be a mermaid.
When I was five, we moved back to our home county of Devon.
