As far as boutique British race car manufacturers go, Lola’s cars and chassis may not have enjoyed quite the success in F1 that Lotus did, but flip that to sports and endurance racers and the Bromley (then Slough) outfit might even have the upper hand. This comparison seeks only to offer perspective on how huge a deal Lola was because its profile outside of motor racing was modest. More than that, it achieved its greatest adulation abroad.
Founded in the late 1950s by Eric Broadley, Lola was already an accomplished maker and supplier of single-seater chassis when, like many, it benefited from the democratisation of motor racing by the cheap and readily available American V8s.
