It’s a sunny Friday morning in the West Rand and our team is preparing to meet entrepreneur, community activist, and marketer, TT (short for Thato) Mbha, for a first-time cover shoot with him and his daughters – TJ (10) and Tumi (6). He has agreed to be on our cover because of his conviction that it’s important to raise bold, powerful, pioneering women. This is a sentiment we share as we talk about children – girl children specifically – and preparing them for this new normal in a world that is still largely more accepting of men’s progression, even at the expense of all our daughters.
At the shoot, we are hosted by the Magic Company – a gaming arcade and bowling alley at Silverstar Casino, where we finally meet the true stars of the cover – TJ and Tumi. Independent, headstrong, and full of personality, they give us massive hugs and big smiles, call us aunts and uncles, and thank us for bringing them here, with a request to play games after the shoot.
