TOP GUN: MAVERICK directed by Joseph Kosinski
Well, that’s a relief. The reason for the 36 years between the first and second Top Gun movies isn’t because World War III broke out aft er Maverick and Iceman shot down those Soviet MiGs at the end of the 1986 movie.
It seems that Cold War incident stoked the pilots’ legends but was unnoticed by is a great plane film, an exciting piece of immersive reach-for-the-sickbag derring-do. It’s a much better movie than the first, which, given the aeronautical lengths that leading man Tom Cruise is prepared to go, isn’t a surprise.
