Each Easter weekend at Broadford, Victoria since 2009, Motorcycling Australia (MA) has served up a nostalgic and often spectacular smorgasbord of non-competitive track action – the annual Broadford Bike Bonanza sponsored by Shannons Insurance, presenting the DNA of half a dozen different branches of motorcycle sport for the public to sample all at the same time. In allaying fears that it might have been a permanent casualty of Covid-19, the first such event for the past three years took place in gloriously sunny autumnal weather over 15-17 April.

The last Bonanza, planned for April 2020, had to be cancelled just four weeks before it was supposed to take place, nor was it held in 2021.

“There was a serious risk that if we didn’t run the Bonanza again this year now that Covid restrictions are finally being lifted, it wouldn’t ever happen again,” said David White, former CEO of MA who retired from the role back in 2014.

He remains the godfather of the event after conceiving it back in 2009 as a way of raising funds for MA’s Museum &
