Just on a month ago, a lot of people — myself included — were gutted to learn that our friend Robin Silk had just lost his hard-fought battle with leukaemia. The auditorium at Southward Car Museum holds more than 500 people and, with that packed out, half as many people again were standing out in the foyer, flowing down the stairs, and out to the main entrance doors. An estimated 700 people from all over New Zealand turned out to say a sad farewell to a wonderful guy.
I was lucky enough to get a seat up near the front, which enabled me to see, draped over Robin’s casket, alongside his ‘Wally’, what looked like a T-shirt. I eventually recognised it as one of the T-shirts I did for Robin, depicting
