Over the past six years, this column has been pretty much dedicated to my exploits with Ted and, more recently, Percy. But if I may indulge this month, I would like to share my experience of whelping our first litter of cocker pups.
For those that haven’t followed the story, we mated Percy to our little orange-and-white cocker, Dott. It was part of the agreement with their breeder that he desperately wanted a blue roan dog pup out of the couple and we willingly agreed. The nine weeks of gestation passed without any dramas, but as the ‘Double D-Day’ – Dott’s delivery day – approached, I started to get quite anxious.
