Hilo Trollers First 2022 Tournament Results
Hilo Trollers was able to hold its first tournament of the season on Sunday, May 15. Check-in and weigh-in went smoothly thanks to all the volunteers, and a safe and successful tournament was enjoyed by all, including the observers at Suisan.
Seven boats entered and five boats weighed in qualifying fish. No marlin or mahimahi were caught, but it is still a bit early in the season. One nice ‘ahi, six ono and two otaru were weighed in. The largest ‘ahi—and largest fish overall—was a 126.8-lb beauty landed on the KEAOLANI by Capt. John Burns and crew. The KEAOLANI also landed a 23.1-lb ono, which earned the team Grand Champion honors for landing two different species of qualifying flag fish.
The largest ono, a 39.2-lb fish, was landed on the by Capt. Nick Muragin and crew. This catch edged by less than a pound, since the with Capt. Ricky Torres and crew landed a 38.4-pounder and a 37.4-pounder. However, those two fish put that team in the lead for a yearend total weight for ono, but results will change as the season progresses.
