IN CONVERSATION WITH Jessie BURTON

When her exquisite debut novel, The Miniaturist, became an instant bestseller, Jessie Burton’s life changed. Going on to write two more successful novels, The Muse and The Confession, and two books for children, Jessie has returned to 18th-century Amsterdam with The House of Fortune, the much-awaited sequel to The Miniaturist, which is being adapted by the BBC for TV. Revisiting the Brandt family, we are also introduced to Thea, who is on the cusp of adulthood.

Jessie lives in south-east London with her partner and baby. She has two cats of different dispositions.

I didn’t consider writing a sequel to The Miniaturist at first.
