In the months immediately following World War II, a Swedish aircraft manufacturer found that after the conflict had ended, it was figuratively twiddling its thumbs. The market for their aircraft designs had suddenly shrunk so, to make something in their factories that people actually wanted in volume, it decided to build cars.

From 1945 to roughly 2016, give or take a couple of years, Saab has produced some of the most quirky, characterful, and thoroughly well-engineered cars ever manufactured. Whether an early ’96 two stroke, 900 Turbo, or a later 9-3 Aero, Saab cars were able to get under
