In 2020, a month after the announcement of the lockdown, I made my way to Bethlehem, the town where I grew up. My baggage relatively light. Clothes and a few books I couldn’t do without. I was, after all, just going home.
The move from the Mother City, for many South Africans a dream home, to the Eastern Free State, with its beauty but also its challenges, seemed “illogical”
