WINNING LETTER

NO THEME NEEDED

I may be taking this quite the wrong way, but I was very surprised. Why would you need a ‘theme’? is what it is and it stands out far ahead of any others. Just to see those delightful covers on the shelves is uplifting even before we arrive home and open up the magazine – and let’s face it, we need uplifting in these troubled times of ours. I have belonged to a group of crafters for over 30 years and apart from making various items for ourselves we have always been involved in helping others. For example, we have knitted or crocheted beanies, mittens and scarves and made knee rugs for some ‘forgotten’ elderly folk in the frail-care section of a home. We have made soft toys for children in hospital. All this is ongoing and although there are only 10 of us, it is amazing what this group produces. Another member and I often issue a challenge: Make dolls, for instance. The members say, ‘I’ve never made one in my life’ but you should see what comes up! And we do it with love every inch of the way. We have just made patchwork cushions to brighten up the lounge of a home and the next few months are full of plans for Christmas gifts.
