You were a sought-after prospect at AB in Denmark, with several clubs interested in you. Why did you choose Rangers in 2000?

I was in talks with Newcastle until Rangers came in for me at the last moment. I signed for Rangers rather than fly on to Newcastle, so they were a wee bit annoyed! I landed in Glasgow and my agent gave me his phone – it was Brian Laudrup! I was starstruck. The Laudrup brothers were like gods in Denmark and Brian was a legend at Rangers. He told me how amazing the club, fans and city are.

Rangers’ side was full of talent back then. Who impressed you most?

They had great players like Frank and Ronald de Boer,
